Welcome

Hiya!

[ Vandervas Generator is a game studio based in Auckland, New Zealand. We answer the unquestionable, and express that through interactive digital experiences. We are currently on a mountain retreat, thinking about the next big thing to revolutionise. ]

Jonathan Vanderhoorn

Music & Writing

Vanderhoorn

Hi there internet traveller! My name is Jonathan, and I compose all the music for our games. You’ll also hear me voice acting, read my writing, and even see some of my amazing art skills (see if you can find which game!).

I studied music at university and studied editing and post production at film school, and you can find me intermittently uploading things onto my YouTube channel linked above.

Nicolaas Vás

Programming & Art

@PrinceGalidor

Hello! I'm Nicolaas, and I am one half of two people making video games. I like to make art and "code" things. As I grew up I gained an interest in vintage stamps, captivated by the history and artistry packed into every tiny slip.

Ultimately this wasn't as exciting as it sounds, and I realized that I needed to reconsider my life choices. While staring into a frozen puddle, I realized that video games were the answer. Currently I am working on new creative experiences, and desperately trying to avoid writing code.

Five games I consider to be the most impactful on my game philosophy:

– Riven (Cyan, 1997)
– Portal (Valve, 2007)
– QWOP (Bennett Foddy, 2008)
– Minecraft (Mojang, 2011)
– Transistor (Supergiant Games, 2014)

Five games which had a great impact on my interactive philosophy:

– Logical Journey of the Zoombinis (TERC, 1996)
– Freelancer (Digital Anvil, 2003)
– Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked and Loaded (Insomniac Games, 2003)
– 2QWOP (Bennett Foddy, 2012)
– Outer Wilds (Mobius Digital, 2019)
